Lloyd F. Wood presented with 2012 Chamber Volunteer Award during Chamber’s Annual Commonwealth Breakfast at Farmington Country Club

This morning, the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce presented area businessman and civic leader, Lloyd F. Wood, the 2012 Chamber Volunteer Award.  The presentation was made during the Chamber’s 2012 Commonwealth Breakfast at Farmington County Club, which was attended by area business and civic leaders.

Wood for his many energetic efforts on behalf of our Chamber of Commerce – most particularly with our Chamber North Charlottesville Business Council – as well as our Greater Charlottesville community," said Robert P. Hodous, Partner at Payne & Hodous, Attorneys, Immediate Past Chairman of the Chamber Board (2011), and Chairman of the Chamber Awards Recognitions Committee.  "We are very pleased to recognize LF’s outstanding volunteer service."


The annual Chamber Volunteer Award was established in 1998 to honor Chamber member volunteers who made outstanding contributions to the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce.  Now in its second decade, the annual Chamber Volunteer Award continues to be presented to those who help enhance and extend the Chamber’s dedication to member service.


With his family, Mr. Wood owns Storage Solutions, a Chamber member business, and several other enterprises.  You can find him most days managing his first business love – Putt Putt Golf Course on Rio Road.  Mr. Wood is an active Chamber member.  Since 2008, Mr. Wood has served as the Chairman of the Chamber North Charlottesville Business Council.  He is active in numerous community organizations.  Mr. Wood is a charter member of the Albemarle Rotary Club and the Kappa Sigma fraternity national alumni association.  He is member of the Dogwood Festival committee, the Fraternal Order of the Police, the Albemarle Police Foundation, the Elks, the Virginia Athletic Foundation, the Piedmont Traffic Club and the Young Men’s Business Club.


Mr. Wood served on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors from 1968 to 1975, participating in the very first discussions about construction of a proposed Meadow Creek Parkway, among many public policy matters.  He was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Counties.  He served as a member of the Albemarle County Planning Commission for eight years.  Mr. Wood is a long-time member of the Seminole Trail Volunteer Fire Department, where he is the Chairman of the Board.  He has served, and in many cases continues to serve on, the Albemarle County Police Advisory Board, the Albemarle County Board of Zoning Appeals, the Albemarle County Highway Safety Committee and the Virginia Highway Safety Commission Advisory Board.


Mr. Wood is a native and life-long resident of Charlottesville and Albemarle County, except for the four years after he graduated from Lane High School, when he attended the University of Richmond, where he received his bachelor’s degree in business administration.  Mr. Wood and his wife Patsy are the parents of three adult children and seven grandchildren.  They are members of the First Baptist Church.
