Charlottesville City Schools Announces February Public Events

Please add the following to your community calendars as appropriate. Feb. 5, CHS Symphony/Chorus Concert and Fine Arts Extravaganza, 7:30 p.m.�in the Martin Luther King Performing Arts Center. Free admission.� Contact:� Aaron Eichorst at 245-2671. For more information: The CHS Symphony is created for one concert performance each year by combining members of the Wind Ensemble and String Ensemble.� The symphony will be joined by a choir of 140 student and adult voices for two selections. Visual art created by our CHS art students will be displayed on a giant screen between pieces, and a scene from the upcoming musical Sweeney Todd will be presented by our theater department.� The talents of hundreds of CHS student musicians, actors, and artists will be on display; come one, come all, bring the kids–it’s free! The program includes the first movement of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Night on Bald Mountain, Light Cavalry Overture, Danzon no. 2, “Dies Irae” from Mozart’s Requiem, and a song from Frostiana, written by Randall Thompson. � Feb. 12, Parent University at Buford Middle School, 6pm in the Buford Auditorium. �For parents of current 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and current 8th grade students. Contact: 245-2411. � For more information: Parents of current sixth, seventh, and eighth-graders are invited to Parent University, an orientation for the 2014-15 school year. Joseph Allen, Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia, will speak to all parents on �Understanding the Middle Years.� For current 8th graders and their parents:� principals from Charlottesville High School and Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center (CATEC) will offer information.

For parents of current 6th and 7th-graders: Buford�s principals will make presentations. � And a Save-the-Date(s) for March: Mar. 21-23, TheatreCHS presents Sweeney Todd, 7:30 pm (Fri.-Sat.) and 3pm (Sunday).� Martin Luther King Performing Arts Center.
