CHAMBER SUPPORTS �REGULATED USE OF BIO-SOLIDS AGRICULTURAL FERTILIZERS� THAT �MEET ALL APPLICABLE SCIENTIFICALLY-BASED FEDERAL & STATE ENVIRONMENTAL & HEALTH STANDARDS� AND �COMMUNITY-FRIENDLY VOLUNTARY MANAGEMENT PRACTICES�

The Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce today announced that it �supports the regulated use of bio-solids agricultural fertilizers on agricultural lands within our region that meet all applicable scientifically-based federal and state environmental and health standards and �community-friendly� voluntary environmental management systems practices.� The Chamber also resolved that �as scientific evidence is confirmed by appropriate federal and state environmental and health agencies, applicable regulatory review and adjustments should be established.� The Chamber support comes in the form of Chamber Resolution 11-1: Regulated Use of Bio-solids Agricultural Fertilizers, approved by the Chamber Board of Directors at its regular monthly meeting held on Tuesday.� The Chamber resolution was earlier recommended for Board approval by the Chamber Economic & Government Affairs Committee and the Chamber Agri-business Round Table.� A copy of Chamber Resolution 11-1: Regulated Use of Bio-solids Agricultural Fertilizers is attached. Chamber Resolution (11-1): Regulated Use of Bio-solids Agricultural Fertilizers

WHEREAS, our Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1913, dedicated to �representing private enterprise, promoting business and enhancing the quality of life in our Greater Charlottesville communities,� today numbers 1,000 member enterprises, employing more than 45,000 people in our communities, representing an estimated total payroll of more than $1.3 billion a year; WHEREAS, the economic vitality and quality of life of our Greater Charlottesville communities is directly related to the continued vitality and success of private enterprise and including agricultural enterprises; WHEREAS, the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce Chamber embraces and supports Virginia’s long tradition of commitment to agri-business while in our Greater Charlottesville region, these rural businesses � mostly small, family enterprises � are estimated to produce each year, more than $60 million in agricultural products; WHEREAS, as a strong advocate of private enterprise, our Chamber acclaims the private landowner stewardship of the private rural landscape that surrounds and graces our urban areas and sustainable management by private landowners has resulted in the exceptional open vistas of active farms and forested mountains, which we as residents and business people – and the tourists visiting here – all enjoy; WHEREAS, agricultural enterprise requires sustained stewardship and meticulous land management including employing various techniques and applications to ensure the sustained richness of agricultural lands while remaining economically viable and ecologically sound; WHEREAS, techniques such as the regulated use of nutrient rich organic bio-solids agricultural fertilizers have demonstrated improved production of agricultural products while meeting all applicable scientifically based federal and state environmental and health standards as well as articulated �community-friendly� environmental management practices under the National Bio-solids Partnership; WHEREAS, regulated use of bio-solids agricultural fertilizers also has demonstrated to be an improved and cost effective recycling use of municipal solid waste, reducing landfill and incineration methods, while meeting all applicable scientifically based federal and state environmental and health standards; WHEREAS, our Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce encourages further scientific inquiry into asserted health and environmental impacts and updated regulatory review as appropriate as other impacts are assessed; BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Directors of our Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce, that this Chamber herein supports the regulated use of bio-solids agricultural fertilizers on agricultural lands within our region that meet all applicable scientifically-based federal and state environmental and health standards and �community-friendly� voluntary environmental management systems practices; and, BE IT FUTHER RESOLVED that as scientific evidence is confirmed by appropriate federal and state environmental and health agencies, applicable regulatory review and adjustments should be established. ���������������������������������������������������������������������������������_ x/ Robert P.
