Chamber Statement on General Assembly Passage of Comprehensive Transportation Funding Plan

(Charlottesville, Virginia February 23) The following is a re-release of the statement from Timothy Hulbert, President of the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce issued on Saturday on the passage of comprehensive transportation funding plan by the General Assembly. Our Chamber of Commerce is very pleased by today’s passage of a comprehensive transportation funding plan by the General Assembly. We applaud Governor McDonnell’s leadership on this critically important issue. Our Chamber has been a steadfast advocate for decades for a comprehensive transportation funding plan by which the Commonwealth would meet its fundamental, core responsibility. This bill achieves that goal. While we are disappointed with those Delegates & Senators (Delegates Dickie Bell, Rob Bell, Matthew Farris and Steven Landes; Senators Emmett Hanger and Bryce Reeves), who got lost in the bill’s imperfections rather than the needed focus on the achievable, we heartily applaud those (Delegates Ed Scott and David Toscano; Senators Creigh Deeds and Frank Ruff) who have kept their focus on the do-able.
