Chamber Restaurants Featured At Gala To Benefit Charlottesville Scholarship Program

Several Chamber member restaurants will be serving some of theirspecialties at the Charlottesville Promise Gala on Saturday night, September 28th, at the Paramount Theatre. The Gala supports the Charlottesville Scholarship Program initiated through a partnership with the City of Charlottesville and the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce and its efforts to help Charlottesville City Schools graduates and city employees to attend the college of their choice or enroll in professional studies. The Boar’s Head Inn, Chaps Ice Cream and a number of other restaurants have signed on to donate food for the Gala, which will also be serving local wines. The Charlottesville Scholarship Program is an all-volunteer organization that is currently assisting thirty city scholars, selected through an open application process, as they pursue post-secondary studies. The program grew out of the City of Charlottesville’s allocation of $250,000 in 2001 to seed community scholarships for graduates of city schools and city employees, with a matching amount raised by area businesses and citizens. All proceeds from the Gala are used directly to support the scholarships. In addition to the food and wine, the Gala will feature remarks by noted author, educator and University of Virginia professor, Rosalyn Berne, pre-Gala music by the Charlottesville High School Orchestra Quartet and Jean DePiro, and dancing with the band “180”. The Daily Progress is a media sponsor for the event, which starts Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $35, or $100 for Supporters, and can be purchased at cvillescholarship.com or by calling 434-987-8338 or at the door.
