Chamber Will Hold Dedication Ceremony for The Grove
UPDATE: Due to rain, the ceremony has been postponed to May 30 at 10am.
The Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold a public dedication ceremony May 14 to celebrate the completion of The Grove at McIntire Park.
The Grove is a stone terrace and monument inscribed with names of recipients of the Chamber's annual business leadership award, first established in 1975. The monument honors past, present, and future leaders, who have been recognized by the Chamber for their outstanding contributions to our Greater Charlottesville communities.
Charlottesville Mayor Juandiego Wade, 2019 recipient of the Chamber leadership award, will share remarks during a brief ceremony at The Grove scheduled for 10am on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Peggy Van Yahres, who spearheaded the work to establish The Grove, will speak as well.
The event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is requested. Click here to register.
The Grove invites rest and reflection beneath the canopy of 150-year-old oak trees in a quiet area of McIntire Park East. Envisioned and established by private citizens in partnership with the Chamber and the City of Charlottesville, the monument also serves to preserve the hilltop’s landmark oak trees and enhances the East side of McIntire Park with a location to admire the view of Brown’s Mountain.
To access The Grove, visitors can park in the Skate Park parking lot at the corner of McIntire Park Drive and Rugby Avenue. The Grove is a 5-10 minute walk from the parking area, across the pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks, then left on the paved walkway leading away from the Skate Park.
