Chamber Spotlight: Sherri McKinney, Foothills Child Advocacy Center
What does your organization do?
Foothills Child Advocacy Center (CAC) provides a coordinated system of effective response and intervention to children who have been victimized. Our goals are to minimize trauma, promote healing, and ensure child safety.
What is unique about your organization and the work you do in our community?
We are the only CAC. Our goals are to minimize the number of times a child who has been victimized has to tell their story and to successfully prosecute the offender.
How did you choose the field you're in?
I am one of those people who always knew what I wanted to be when I grew up and I've been fortunate enough to do it.
What career highlight or accomplishment are you most proud of?
I founded the Juvenile Human Trafficking Task Force in Stark County, Ohio. We did amazing things to recover and serve survivors and combat trafficking in our community.
What's your favorite thing about the Charlottesville area?
There are SO many great vegan food options!
What is one of your favorite local businesses, and why?
Cville Coffee. Toan makes everyone feel like the most important person in the room. Oh, and the coffee is great!
How do you like to spend your days off?
Outside enjoying the beautiful weather, spending time with friends, exploring.
What do you like about being a Chamber member?
I'm new to the community and am looking forward to the opportunity to connect with other members.
