For over 45 years, JABA has provided services and supports for older adults, individuals with disabilities, and family caregivers throughout Central Virginia. The Information and Assistance program is the door to enter to determine what services could be helpful, as well as obtaining fact sheets or referrals within JABA and to other agencies.
For more in-depth assistance, Options Counselors are available. We operate Community Senior Centers in Charlottesville and Albemarle County – located at our main office on Hillsdale Drive, Scottsville and Yancey School. The centers provide socialization, stimulating activities, field trips and a nutritious noon meal, along with nurse support on medication management and education.
When more supervision is necessary, due to cognitive or physical disabilities, the Adult Care Center at Hillsdale provides a full day of activities, meals, medication management and assistance with self-care. This is co-located with JABA’s Shining Star Preschool.
With the help of volunteers, we are able to offer a robust, free Medicare and Affordable Care Act insurance counseling program. Our Ombudsman program provides advocacy services for those who live in long-term care facilities, such as a nursing home or assisted living. We also offer a Home Delivered Meals program and a Chronic Pain & Disease Self-Management program, which allows those individuals to take more control over their health and quality of life.
Volunteers enjoy being mentors in our local public schools through the FISH (Friends in Schools Helping) program. JABA also partners with local organizations to serve the community. JABA is a founding member of the Charlottesville Area Alliance, a group of 30 area organizations dedicated to making ours an age-friendly community.
