On Wednesday, March 30, internationally renowned artist P. Buckley Moss unveiled "North Mountain Academy," her latest original to benefit WVPT—Virginia’s Public Television and the first in a new series of prints entitled "Lifelong Learning."

WVPT’s President and General Manager Bert Schmidt said at the unveiling at the Moss Museum, "One of the joys I’ve had since coming to the area is getting to know Pat Moss and her love for children and family. It is a wonderful partnership we have with Pat. It is because of Pat’s generosity that we have 68 hours of children’s programs airing each week."

Each year for the past 25 years, P. Buckley Moss has created an original watercolor especially for WVPT. Each year, prints have been made of the original and have been sold to purchase the broadcast rights for culturally enriching programs and series. The sale of P. Buckley Moss prints has raised well over $1,200,000.

WVPT—Virginia’s Public Television was awarded a bronze Finalist Telly Award for "Virginia Tonight," the public affairs series the station canceled in November 2004 due to lack of funding.

"WVPT is so very proud to be recognized for the quality of our local programs," said Bert Schmidt, WVPT’s president and general manager. "We are very proud of our production team, and the work of ‘Virginia Tonight’ Host/Producer Rex Hodge and Co-Host Crystal Graham."

More than 10,000 entries were submitted for competition from all 50 states and several foreign countries. The specific "Virginia Tonight" broadcast entered was "The Passion of the Christ," which aired February 26, 2004, on "Virginia Tonight," the day after Mel Gibson’s movie debuted in theaters nationwide. The program featured Danny Campbell, senior pastor of Wayne Hills Baptist Church in Waynesboro; Richard Herskowitz, the artistic director of the University of Virginia’s Virginia Film Festival; and Peter Ochs, a professor of Jewish studies at UVA.

AlbemarleFamily was honored with the Bronze Award for Overall Excellence, the most highly competitive category, at the Parenting Publications of America (PPA) Editorial and Design Competition awards banquet February 26th. The three-day PPA Annual Convention was held in St. Petersburg, Florida. In business for 7 years, 2005 marks an incredible expansion for AlbemarleFamily as their popular magazine goes to full color and 10-issues-per-year.

PPA's Editorial and Design Awards Competition recognizes excellence in journalism, photography and design achieved by publishers, editors, writers and designers at member publications. A panel of 25 judges poured over 800 entries to choose the winners in each category.

Diffusion Pharmaceuticals LLC recently announced that it has reached an agreement with the New Approaches to Brain Tumor Therapy CNS Consortium (NABTT) for a comprehensive clinical trials program to test Diffusion’s lead drug candidate, trans sodium crocetinate (TSC), as a radiation sensitizer in the treatment of cancerous tumors. The National Cancer Institute funds NABTT, an alliance of ten leading hospitals dedicated to improving the outcome for adults with primary brain tumors. Medical experts believe that TSC’s oxygen-enhancing ability may be useful in cancer treatment by increasing the response of cancerous tumors to radiation therapy.

Under the agreement, phase I and II clinical trials will be conducted by NABTT in two different patient populations ("recurrent" and "initially diagnosed" brain tumors) beginning in early 2006. Diffusion Pharmaceuticals also plans clinical trials for TSC in hemorrhagic shock, with a focus on the treatment of wounded soldiers suffering from severe blood loss on the battlefield.
